Randomness Part 2

Every day something happens that I think would make a great blog entry. Every day there are 1,000 other things to do besides taking pictures, downloading them, uploading them and writing about them. I won't complain about being busy since yesterday was my last paid work day until August. Here's what Ruby's been up to in the meantime:

Grandma O'Brien and I took Norah and Ruby to Ardenwood Historic Farms in Fremont. It was close, cheap, empty and great for two toddlers to wander around. Other than the wild turkey that followed the girls around (to the point we had to pick them up and leave the area), we had a great time.

Ruby's big into imaginative play. She's always making us tasty treats in her kitchen. If we leave a purse or bag around, she grabs it and tells us she's going to the park. She rocks and puts her babies and stuffed animals to bed. And she sweeps, vacuums and dusts more than I do. A while back, she decided her bear needed dinner (don't ask me why she's topless).

Speaking of imagination, this is Ruby pretending to be Grandpa Stone's dog Crockett. She fed him the last time we were in Nevada City and talks about it all the time.

I took Ruby to a school party a few weeks ago. She was having a fine time and then my friend's fifth grade daughter came home from Girl Scouts. It was love at first sight! Ruby immediately took to Kinsey and played with her the rest of the party. I actually sat outside with my friends while the girls played in the family room. I heart big girls who would come and get me if there was an emergency and happily entertain my kid when there's not.

BTW, Ruby was so, so, so sad to leave her new friend at the end of the party. If I mention Kinsey now, Ruby makes a pouty face and tells me she's sad. Then she reminds me that I promised to "call Kins mommy" over the summer.

We go to story time in Menlo Park every Friday. Ruby loves it. She pays attention the entire time...especially for the songs. Unfortunately, she prefers to stand right in front of the librarian. That all changed last Friday when she cozied up to a big girl (there's clearly a trend here). She sat the entire time and gave the big girl a hug when it was over. I asked her mom to please come every Friday =)

We went to Adam's company picnic on Saturday. They had a jumpy house. Ruby went in immediately and stayed in for 90% of the time we were there. She spent the other 10% fascinated by the two guys who showed up to take the jumpy house down.

It was super hot this weekend so I convinced Adam to check out the baby pool at Burgess. Ruby loves swimming, I love getting a tan and we have to entertain ourselves five days a week starting next week. The local pool seems like the perfect way to fill a day.

Ruby liked the baby pool but she LOVES the big pool. She kept asking Adam to go back so she could jump in, swim under water, turn around and do it all over again. Every time she came up for air she had a huge smile on her face and waved to me across the pool. It was so amazing to see what Adam and Ruby have been doing for the past six months!

Happy summer!
