It Never Gets Old

After nap time today, Adam and I got Ruby's pool out of the garage. Just as we were taking it outside, the neighborhood kids came out to play. In no time, there were five kids, three towels, two pools, one hose and more cups and toys that I can name. The kids played while the grown ups sat and chatted. So nice!

One family brought out peanuts for a snack. Ruby wanted to eat them so badly but we she hasn't had peanuts straight up yet. We didn't want to ruin a pool party with a trip to the ER so Adam went inside to get a snack for everyone. While he was gone, the kids kindly took a break from eating peanuts so Ruby wouldn't be sad. I tried to explain why we didn't want her to have the peanuts yet. One little girl told me she was allergic to penicillin. Another little girl told me she wasn't allergic to anything. The lone boy in the bunch said, "Ruby's mom. I am allergic to one thing. Turkey sandwiches. Not the bread. Just the turkey."

I've spent the past 10 years with kids and the past 21 months with a toddler. Hanging out with them never gets old.
