Uncle O'Brien

Grandpa O'Brien was out for a visit. I went back to school so he spent a lot of time with Ruby and Norah.

We went to the Academy of Sciences on Sunday. I was excited to go again since Ruby was itty bitty when we went the last time. The drive was easy, we found parking, Ruby played out front while we waited for it to open and it didn't seem that crowded. Unfortunately, Ruby wasn't that into the museum. She was mildly interested in the aquarium and could have cared less about the rain forest. Instead, she loved the dinosaur skeleton at the entrance, giant fake footprints on the floor and a little wooden model of a prehistoric three year old.

Her very favorite part of the day was holding a G card while a museum docent talked about the penguins. The docent wanted older kids who could hold AND read the card but no one volunteered. Ruby hopped right up, grabbed the G card and stood in front of the crowd. After I read the back of the G card, the docent tried to prop it against a different wall but Ruby wasn't having it. She grabbed the card and went right back to her original position in front of the crowd. It's too bad Ruby is so shy =)

We stopped by the gift shop on the way out. I thought Ruby would dig a stuffed animal dinosaur. Instead, she grabbed a pair of $9.99 binoculars (AKA binocukers) and didn't look back. She held them all the way home declaring "I grown up!"

P.S. It took a few days for Norah to warm up to Grandpa O'Brien. She originally told Janet that Uncle O'Brien was visiting but she didn't play with him because she was shy. By the end they were reading buddies and apparently she's still talking about him.
