I've seen several blog posts about this so it's clearly not just Ruby but 3 year olds say funniest things. Every time she says something hilarious, I think about putting it on the blog. After forgetting them five minutes later, I started to write them down. Here are a few:
Our little neighborhood has lots of kids that play outside together. One day we pulled in and saw them playing. Ruby joined the fun but she was exhausted so we wanted her to come in for a nap. The kids are really nice and know the routine so they told Ruby not to be sad because they were going to have a soccer party at 4 o'clock. Who knows what a soccer party entails but who cares when it makes our kid happily walk inside and go upstairs for a nap. While she was sleeping, our doorbell rang. Someone left a homemade invitation on the porch and ran away. After she got up from her nap, we checked outside and sure enough, the kids were dressed in soccer gear and playing outside. Adam was on outside duty but popped back in occasionally while he cleaned up and did some chores. After a while he and Ruby both walked in the house together. I asked what happened. He said he found the kids sitting in a circle at the end of the driveway eating candy. Apparently, they were giving away prizes and Ruby won. I asked her how many pieces of candy she'd eaten. She handed me a nearly empty Smarties wrapper and said, "I had a piece of chocolate and these. I was just like Yo Gabba Gabba. I tried it and I liked it!"

We had Ruby take a shower before we left for Auntie's for
dinner. Adam told her she could put on her pajamas if she wanted to be
comfortable (I was in sweats and he was in jeans). She was excited about
the idea but made a last minute audible to wear her party dress instead. Once
that decision was made, out came the tights and party shoes. She also
found a pink ribbon which she asked me to tie around her headband. Fancy
Nancy! On our way to dinner, Ruby said she was a fancy princess, I was
the queen and daddy was the king. I asked her about Ella and she said,
"Ella can be the little guy who carries my glass slippers."
Poor E. The little sister abuse already started.
For some reason Ruby has been answering our questions charades style lately - you ask a question and she acts out the answer. She also likes to "give you a hint" instead of giving us a direct answer. Here are her hints to describe Adam and said: he wears glasses, he had
long hair yesterday but not today, he likes Scooby Doo and he talks like daddy. One day she was hiding from Grandpa Gary. She said, "I'll give you a hint. I'm under the table!" It's a start.
Now that Ella is in the picture, Ruby learned about the wonderful world of pumping. She hasn't seen it much since I do it at work and after bedtime. But, for some reason I had to do it while she was awake last week. She joined m at the table and asked, "Mommy, why does that machine say waffle, waffle, waffle?" This might only be funny to pumping moms =)
Ruby is a princess girl but has been particularly into Cinderella lately. We have to make her clean the house before she can go to the ball. When she's done, she puts on her dress and dances with the prince. All the sudden she runs around the couch yelling "strike, strike, strike" and kicks off one of her shoes. The prince then has to try the shoe on me (too small), on Ella (too big) and then on Ruby (just right). She and the prince get married up and the game starts over again. One day she had to take a bathroom break in the middle of the game. I said something about Cinderella going to the bathroom. She said, "No, I'm not Cinderella. I'm Cinderruby when I'm pooping."
Last weekend I put Ruby and Ella down for a nap and went to take a shower. All the sudden the bathroom door opened and Adam said Ruby had to tell me something. She ran in the bathroom and shouts, "Mommy, mommy! I had a big poopy...like a mountain!" She's got similes down. We'll work on metaphors next.
Sorry for the poop stories. Fortunately or unfortunately, we talk a lot about poop and pee around here =)
