Comparison

I know you're not supposed to compare your kids but Ella looks just like Ruby so it's tough to avoid. When I feed Ella, I have flashbacks because it feels like I'm looking at the same kid.

On the other hand, when I feed Ella I clearly know it's not the same kid because she's eating. She's two weeks old and she's eating.

Ruby was not a good eater. The lactation consultant at PAMF said to give her a month to latch. For the first month of Ruby's life, I tried to get her to eat (we both cried), fed her a bottle and then pumped. What do you know, at exactly one month she finally latched. Even then, she was never a very good eater. Giving up dairy helped a bit but she was never a baby who latched, ate, finished and went on with her day. It seemed like she ate all day long but was never really full. She was itty bitty for the first year of her life which is hard to believe since she's so tall people don't believe us when we tell them she's three. I joke that she was tiny while I was feeding her and then she finally grew.

Ella, on the other hand, latched in the hospital and hasn't looked back. They told me she should eat every 3 hours. What do you know? She eats every three hours..sometimes four at night. When it's time to feed her, she latches, eats, finishes, and goes on with her day. I had no idea it could be like this. I don't have a scale so I have no idea how much she eats or how much she weighs. She was already gaining weight at her first well baby visit and she's definitely looking like a chunky monkey compared to Ruby.

I'll consider myself lucky that the good eater came second. With Ruby in the picture, there is no way I could spend so much time trying to get Ella to eat this time around. Now I'll cross my fingers the differences stop now. Ella is more than welcome to sleep exactly like her sister =)

  1. They really do look so much alike but I think in a month they'll start to look different. I'll cross my fingers too.
