First up, her real birthday. We continued our tradition of cupcakes for breakfast. She requested chocolate cupcakes with purple frosting. Done! She "was wishing" for a boy doll to go with her Barbie doll. Done! She gets a balloon every year. Done! All the mailed birthday cards and gifts come out after bedtime. Done!
For dinner that night, she chose Jeffrey's, her favorite burger joint in Menlo Park. Since it's semi fast food and there are 10 of us so I called ahead to see about a table. They were kind enough to reserve a spot for us. It wasn't fancy but if the birthday girl wants it, the birthday girl gets it.
In case you can't tell, she's dressed as Fancy Nancy for her birthday. She's in a new dress (thanks Grandma Jo), lots of hair bling, bracelets, heart tights and party shoes. Typical Ruby, she went worked in an outfit change and ended the night as Jasmine (thanks Grandma O'Brien).
Next up, her birthday party. The theme - Barbie Superhero Jammie Movie Party. With some of our best buddies in Texas and London and her preschool on summer vacation, I decided to have a party with the neighborhood kids that Ruby's been playing with since she could walk. Silly me I thought it would be easier. It wasn't but we enlisted the help of the village so it was worth it.
Auntie Caitlin (AKA sewing and baking extraordinaire) blogged about all the details here. Isn't she awesome?
The following weekend we got an email from a neighbor saying, "If only Ruby could have a birthday party every weekend. Since she can't, do you want to have a pizza picnic outside for dinner?" Music to my party throwing ears.
Happy birthday Ruby!
