Christmas Came Early

Ruby has had favorite toys in the past but they've always been something we picked out or she got as a gift. Christmas came early today and Ruby chose her first toy.

A few months ago, I noticed she was truly enamored with doll umbrella strollers. Whenever our neighbors have their stroller outside, Ruby ditches her toys to grab it. On Halloween, she spotted one inside a house and walked right in to help herself. Last weekend, she cried all the way home from the park when a little girl kept leaving her stroller to play but then ran back every time Ruby touched it. When we got home, she stood at the front door crying and pointing. I swear if I opened the door she would've walked back to the park to get the stroller. At that point, I decided to get her one but thought I'd get rid of a few other toys first. This afternoon, we already napped, ate, did errands and played outside and there was still an hour and a half until dinner time. I had to return a sweater anyway so Ruby and I went to the mall. Conveniently, Toys R Us has set up a temporary shop at the Stanford Shopping Center for the holiday season so I stopped in to get Ruby a stroller. She went crazy the minute she saw the display. She insisted on holding the stroller immediately (even though she was in a stroller herself). She wouldn't let the cashier anywhere near it. She held the handles and let the wheels drag while I pushed her to the car. And, she held it all the way home.

As for what happened when we got home, the video speaks for itself:

Please don't pay attention when Ruby stops to watch a commercial on the television. It's Sunday and football season so we can't resist. Please do pay attention when she signs "thank you" at the end of the video. Ruby may eat with her feet on the table but she's polite!

  1. I love this whole thing. I love watching Ruby and seeing her. I am missing all this and it makes me so sad. Ruby's love for her stroller reminds me so m uch of Adam's love for his little ride around/push car. I think it was supposed to be some kind of emergency vehicle- whatever, He loved it. Remember that, Adam? Of course, it was replaced by his beloved red and blue Hot Wheel when he got old enough. I would also love to see all the signs Ruby can make. I know a few and tried them on Thura but it was hard to follow thru. What a great gift- to give a pre-language child the ability to communicate. Great job, Megan.

  2. For some reason, your blog doesn't show up as update on my blog, so I missed the last 4 entries! She is so genuinely excited about life. It makes me laugh and brings tears to my eyes all at the same time.
