We like to drive long distances during nap time so Adam surprised me by stopping in San Francisco on the way. We had breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants and then he took Ruby to the park while I shopped at my all time favorite store. It was a great start to the weekend!
Grandpa Stone emailed me on Friday saying he was cleaning the pool so Ruby could go swimming. We talked it up all the way to Nevada City so Ruby was beyond ready to take a dip. Unfortunately, when we arrived he told us the heater was broken. Ruby probably would've gone in anyway but Adam wasn't going in the cold water to play with her (Adam is in charge of water). After a minor meltdown for both Ruby and me (I had to hold her kicking and screaming so she didn't run fully clothed into the pool), Adam declared that Ruby would have to swim in Grandpa's inside pool. Brilliant! She was perfectly happy playing in the big whirlpool bath tub...she even went "swimming" again the next day.
The AMGEN Tour of California was scheduled to start in downtown Nevada City the following day so we made an early dinner reservation to avoid the crowd. Ruby was already enjoying the crayons, her new fairies and some mac 'n cheese when someone started playing the guitar in the other room. She spent the rest of the meal taking one of us back and forth between our table and the bar to check out the music. She kept clapping and telling the nice man about "daddy's tar." Dinner was so successful (at one point another waitress came by asking to meet Ruby because she heard she was so well behaved), we stopped at the ice cream parlor before walking home. Ruby's a fan!
After nap time on Sunday, Adam and Grandpa Stone wanted to watch the Sharks game. Luckily Grandma Stone brought some entertainment...markers! Every teacher has a thing they don't really care for. Some don't like glitter. Some don't like white glue. I don't like markers. Not only do crayons make better drawings but they aren't as messy. By the time kids are done with markers, they have it on their hands, their clothes, their faces, their tongues...you name it. So markers aren't my thing but as far as I'm concerned, Grandmas get free reign when grand kids are involved. Ruby and Grandma Stone spent an hour coloring and stickering these awesome cardboard letters that spelled RUBY. Ruby loved it and shouts "markers" when I ask if she wants to color.
Before hitting the road, we posed for a few photos. Ruby, Grandpa Stone and Crockett pose for one in the same spot every time we visit. Ruby and Grandma Stone snuggled one last time. And, if you can believe it, the three of us got together for a photo. The last family photo may have been at a Halloween play date. We weren't in our Sunday best but it will have to do.
Thanks for having us! Hopefully we'll see you this summer when Ruby meets Maria and Aerthura!
Great family photo (even though R looks a little sad). I am dying to know what your favorite store in SF is....
ReplyDeleteThat's a great picture of the 3 of you. I also was going to ask what your all-time favorite store is?
ReplyDeleteI'll answer for the Ms. Her favorite store is Ambiance on Union Street. There's one in the Haight too I believe. It's a clothing boutique. On any given Saturday afternoon it reminds of that Far Side cartoon depicting cats stacked out the door all trying gain entrance to "Thelma's Curiosity Shop".
ReplyDeleteAmbiance it is! They used to know me by name back when I spent my money on clothes instead of a baby and house.
ReplyDeleteJanet - You busted me on the photo! Ruby wasn't sad she just wasn't smiling. There was a better one of her but I liked myself in this one. Bad mom =)
