We Are Family

I caught a bad cold last week (thanks Kindergarten) and hit a wall on Wednesday. For the first time ever, I didn't think I could make it through the day. Auntie, Grandma O'Brien, Ruby and I were all supposed to meet at Auntie's new house after school. I called Adam on my way to tell him how terrible I felt. He told me to drive right home and go to bed. I was asleep within 30 minutes. He, on the other hand, went to my sister's house to pick up Ruby after work. Before bringing her home, they went out to dinner. My husband, my daughter, my mom and my sister all ate dinner together while I slept off a cold.

I moved to California in 1992 and have spent the past 18 years across the country from my family. I traveled to Ohio often, spent a lot of holidays adopted by friends and took care of myself when I was sick. 10 years ago I met Adam. Five years ago my sister moved here. Two years ago we had Ruby. And, 10 months ago my mom moved here. After last week, I realize just how lucky I am to have my family here too. Thanks Adam, Mom and Caitlin!
